Mountain daphne ( Daphne sericea )

The mountain daphne ( Daphne sericea ) is a species of the genus daphne (Daphne) in the family of Seidelbastgewächse.

Features

The mountain daphne is a shrub, the plant height of 30 to 100 (150 ) achieves centimeter. The leaves are oblong - verkehrteiförmig, acute or obtuse and measure 20 to 60 mm in length and 6-12 mm in width. The underside is covered with tight -fitting white hair, the top is shiny and bald except for a few hairs on the midrib.

The inflorescence consists of 5-15 flowers. The bracts are 4-6 (up to 8 ) mm long. The kronblattähnlichen sepals are pink, ovate or broadly triangular and obtuse or acute. The fruits are orange-brown or reddish.

The flowering period extends from February to April.

Occurrence

The mountain daphne is in the eastern and central Mediterranean in sparse pine forests, and in oak - arbutus - Macchien and Phrygana at altitudes of 100 to 1500 meters in front. It is mainly found at higher elevations and on lime.

Use

The mountain daphne is rarely used as an ornamental plant for alpine houses.
