Darius Nggawa

Darius Nggawa SVD ( born May 1, 1929 in Nggela, Indonesia, † 9 January 2008) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Larantuka on Flores in Indonesia.

Life

Darius Nggawa joined the Congregation of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) and received on 12 October 1955, the ordination.

In 1974 he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed bishop of the diocese Larantuka belonging to a bishopric at the eastern end of the island of Flores and the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara. The episcopal ordination donated to him on June 16, 1974 his predecessor Antoine Hubert Thijssen; Co-consecrators were Djagom Donatus, archbishop of Endeh, and Vitalis Djebarus, Bishop of Denpasar. In 2003, Pope John Paul II to the resignation of Darius Nggawa.

He was very active against the increasing violence and corruption in Indonesia. He was one of the principal supporters of the initiative AsIPA (Asia Integral Pastoral Approach).
