Darnsee

The Darnsee is standing bodies of water northeast of Bramsche in the district of Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony.

General

The Darnsee is caused by a sinkhole. Underground salt deposits melted away by groundwater and the surface collapsed. The lake is about 560 m long and 400 wide. Its depth ranges from 6-8 meters. There is a natural swimming pool at its eastern shore.

Nature reserve

1932, the lake was reported with its immediate environment as a nature reserve. It has a size of about 11 ha, and carries the statistical indicator " NSG WE 3". The area is congruent with the FFH 318

Landscape

The NSG is framed by oak-birch forests and pine forests. Near the shore, larger alder and birch carr woodlands expand, while further seaward Connect extensive reed zones, mainly made ​​of reed (Phragmites australis), Teichbinse ( Schoenoplectus lacustris ) and cattails put together.

Animals and Plants

The floristic features of the area include, or have included: Sumpffarn ( Theylpteris palustris), Lesser Water ( Baldellia ranunculoides ), thread - sedge, Calla Lily ( Calla plaustris ) and cutting ( Cladium mariscus ).

As breeding birds have been, inter alia, Great Crested Grebe, Little Bittern, Mallard Duck, Water Rail and warblers detected.

Pisces

In Darnsee there are pike, walleye, perch and various white fish such as rudd, bleak, tench, carp, bream and ide.
