Darrell's Island, Bermuda
, Sometimes also called Darell Darell 's Iceland Iceland is an island of Bermuda, located in the southeast of the Great Sound ( Great Sound ), about 600 meters north before Grand Bermuda. The island is part of the administrative area of Warwick Parish.
Darell 's Iceland is flat and narrow, about 750 meters long and 120 meters wide on average. It forms the largest and easternmost member of a small chain of islands belonging to the still ( from west to east ) Grace Iceland, Iceland Rickett 's and Burt's Iceland. The latter is only 100 meters west of Darell 's Iceland.
On today only sparsely built-up island was located from 1930 to 1948, built by one of the former British airline Imperial Airways flying boat station. This initially served as a civil airport, and later as a military base of the Royal Air Force.
Since closure of the air base on Darell 's Iceland (1948 ), the only Bermudan airport is 15 km to the north-eastern island of Saint David's.
