Dashkasan District

Daşkəsən (also Dashkasan ) is a rayon in the west of Azerbaijan. Capital of the district is the city Daşkəsən.

Geography

The rayon has an area of 1,047 km ² and is situated 1200 to 2000 meters above sea level in the Lesser Caucasus. Through the area of the river Gushgara flows.

Population

The rayon had 2009 32.800 inhabitants. 99.5 % of the population are Azerbaijanis, 0.3% Russians. 99.8 % belong to the Islamic faith.

Economy and Transport

The region is dominated by agriculture. There is grain and potatoes grown and operated livestock. Furthermore operated mining. There are deposits of iron ore, cobalt and copper ore. In addition, marble is mined.

There is a rail link between the nearby town of Ganja and the village Qushchu Rayon Daşkəsən. By train mainly ore is transported. In addition, a bus line connects the cities Daşkəsən and ganja.

Attractions

In Bayan can be found at an early burial site, the place Amiravar several ancient towers. Near Gabagtepe and Destefur several temples are from the period of the state Albania.
