The Daugava Stadium ( Latvian Daugava stadium ) is a football stadium with track and field facility in the Latvian city of Liepaja. The venue is just a few meters from the Baltic Sea beach. It is considered one of the finest football stadiums in the country.

History

After the start of construction in 1922, the Daugava Stadium was officially opened in Liepāja on 14 June 1925. During the Second World War, it served as the airfield. After the war a wooden grandstand for 1,000 spectators and new changing rooms with showers originated. In the early 1960s the wooden grandstand was replaced by a 5,000 -seat grandstand made ​​of reinforced concrete. Next also shower, weight and fitness rooms were grown and expanded. In the 1970s, the next expansion took place. The seating capacity is now at 5,008 places. It is the home ground of FK Liepājas Metalurgs from the Virsliga, and the same sports club SK Liepaja Metalurgs. In addition, matches the number of Latvian national football teams will be played in this stadium. Also found finals take place at the Latvian Football Cup in the Daugava Stadium. In the years 1992 and 1998 matches were played here in the Baltic Cup.
