David Abel Russell

David Abel Russell ( * 1780 in Petersburg, New York, † November 24, 1861 in Salem, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1835 and 1841 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

David Abel Russell was born during the Revolutionary War in Petersburg. He completed his preliminary studies. Then he studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Salem. He was in 1807 appointed Justice of the Peace in 1809 and received his license as a counselor. In 1813 he was District Attorney in the Northern District of New York. He sat in the years 1816, 1830 and 1833 in the New York State Assembly.

Politically, he was a member at the time of the anti - Jacksonian Group. In the congressional elections of 1834 for the 24th Congress Russell was in the twelfth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry C. Martindale after March 4, 1835. He joined the Whig party. In 1836 he successfully ran for the 25th Congress. He was again re-elected and then retired after the March 3, 1841 from the Congress of. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Claims ( 26th Congress ).

He died on 24 November 1861 in Salem, and was then buried in the Evergreen Cemetery. A few months before the civil war had broken out.
