David Afkham

David Afkham (* 1983 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German conductor.

David Afkham received his first piano and violin lessons at the age of six years. In 2002 he won the national competition Young Musicians a first prize in the piano solo. At 15, he was a young student in piano, music theory and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He completed his studies in conducting from the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar.

David Afkham scholarship from the Richard Wagner Society Bayreuth, a member of the Conductor's Forum of the German Music Council, and the first fellow of Bernard Haitink Fund for Young Talent.

In 2008 he won the London Donatella Flick Conductors Competition and was two years in charge of the post of Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 2010 he received the first prize winner at all the newly founded " Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award".

2012 David joined Afkham his three-year tenure as assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra from.

In regular cooperation assisted David Afkham his mentor Bernard Haitink in numerous concert series with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Among the highlights in the years 2011 to 2013 included the debuts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie -Orchester Berlin, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Filarmonica della Scala, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, Philharmonia Orchestra London, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

From the season 2014/15 is David Afkham chief conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra in Madrid.
