David Braben

David Braben ( born January 2, 1964 in Nottingham ) is a British games developer.

Life

Braben studied with Ian Bell at the University of Cambridge and developed together with it the computer game Elite.

He also wrote Zarch for the Acorn Archimedes, considered to be another milestone in the computer game history and was later published as a virus on other platforms. Braben then founded Frontier Developments, the first game called Frontier was a continuation of elite. Later followed by a third part called First Encounters. None of the sequels could build on the popularity of the elite. The company is still active with Braben as co-owners, publications have included RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 as well as Wallace & Gromit in Project Zoo.

Raspberry Pi Foundation

On August 6, 2010 it was announced that David Braben has founded together with some other foundation Raspberry Pi Foundation and was registered as a nonprofit. The object of the Charity it shall be to promote the education of the children to be more creative in dealing with computers and their programming. This goal will be achieved by developing and providing a so-called " 17- euro - PC".
