Hendry received his doctorate in 1970 at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is currently a professor at Oxford and a Fellow of Nuffield College famous.

His specialization is in the field of forecast. Hendry has published about 20 books and numerous articles.

Since he was very close to Clive WJ Granger and Robert F. Engle, his non- award of the Nobel Prize in Economics (2003) was a disappointment. Since 2013 it is one of Thomson Reuters due to the number of its citations still the favorites for the Nobel Prize (Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates ).
