David Gestetner

David Gestetner (Hungarian: Dávid Gestetner, born March 20, 1854 in Csorna, Hungary, † March 18, 1939 London) was a Hungarian inventor.

David Gestetner initially worked on the Vienna Stock Exchange and had to write off the stock market reports daily. From this work, he developed the first copier, which was written on paper on a wax mask instead and this was used as a template.

Gestetner went to London, where he founded a company in 1881, which established the template and the pins for its procedure. By further developing the method, it was already in 1890 possible to produce 1200 copies per hour. His son Sigmund Gestetner (1897-1956) took over the company after him. The company worked as NRG Group worldwide by 2008, and was eventually taken over by Ricoh.
