David H. Rosenthal

David H. Rosenthal ( born 1945 in New York City, † 1992) was an American translator, poet and jazz author.

Rosenthal studied comparative literature at the City University of New York, where he also received his doctorate. He translated from Catalan (including the Tirant lo Blanc by Joanot Martorell and Marti Joan de Galba from the 15th century, as well as JV Foix, Rodoreda, Victor Català, Per Quart, Gabriel Ferrater, Joan Perucho, Vincent Andrés Estellés, Joan Sales ) and also from the Portuguese and published their own books of poetry. Posthumously published a book about Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century. For his translation work he received the 1988 Creu de Sant Jordi Catalan. He is also known for his book on the Hard Bop. He was also a freelance jazz critic, including Down Beat and Jazz Times. He died of pancreatic cancer.
