David Holmgren

David Holmgren ( born 1955 in Australia) is next to Bill Mollison co-founder of 1978 and first published Permakulturkonzepts ( Permaculture One, composed of permanent and agriculture = permanent and sustainable agriculture).

Life

While Mollison for his numerous appearances and his focus in teaching and dissemination of permaculture is publicly emerged far stronger and was awarded the Right Livelihood Award ( " Alternative Nobel Prize " ) for his efforts in 1981, David Holmgren is considered both theoretically and in practical implementation as a conscientious level of detail researchers and users permakultureller principles. With his new book, Permaculture. Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability, he is currently the most advanced thinkers of the global Permakulturbewegung. His own existing for 17 years Melliodora project is not only one of the most famous demonstration projects in Australia, it has also him as an outstanding Permakulturpraktiker and designers from, the application of knowledge is as wide as founded.

David Holmgren was born in 1955 in Western Australia. As a child, a politically active parents, he was particularly influenced by the social movements of the 1960s and 70s. During a trip through Australia in 1973, he fell in love with the landscape of Tasmania and joined the innovative Environmental Design School in Hobart. The intense working relationship with his mentor, Bill Mollison led three years later to the publication of Permakulturkonzepts and presented thus paving the way for his future life. Its main focus is on since the implementation and experimental confirmation of the Permakulturkonzepts.

Holmgren has written several books, developed three projects by Permaculture and implemented, and conducted courses and workshops in Australia. For 17 years, he lives with his wife Su Dennett and his son Oliver on his farm Melliodora project and has collected as designers and planners a wealth of experience in his bioregion in the southeast of Australia. In the international Permakulturbewegung Holmgren is especially appreciated for his dedication with which he demonstrated time and again through practical projects the possibilities of permaculture. He teaches by personal example and shows that a sustainable lifestyle can be a realistic, attractive and effective alternative to consumption in dependence.
