David Mendes da Silva

David Mendes da Silva (born 4 August 1982 Rotterdam) is a Dutch footballer of Cape Verdean origin.

Clubs

His career began in 1999 Mendes Sparta Rotterdam. There he completed 117 games and scored 8 goals. Except for a short Leihphase at Ajax Amsterdam, he remained for five years in Rotterdam before joining NAC Breda. There he became a regular player and was in 56 games on the court. From 2006 to 2010, the 1.86 meter tall Mendes played for AZ Alkmaar, where he was under Louis van Gaal master the Dutch Eredivisie 2009.

In the summer of 2010, the FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga him committed. He fought his way to a permanent place immediately, but was thrown back in the winter because of a pubic bone inflammation. When he came back in the spring, he injured his ankle and had to undergo an operation. He should be the people of Salzburg are not available until approximately December 2011. After several other injuries, the club and the player agreed to the early termination of the contract.

He is a very versatile player who can play in midfield and in defense. He is known for his dribbling and sophisticated technology.

National

His first international game, he completed on 7 February 2007 against Russia. Previously he has played for the U-20 national team of the Netherlands and participated in the Junior World Cup in 2001.

David Mendes was in the 30 -man squad for the World Cup 2010 finals in South Africa, where the Dutch reached the final selection. Mendes, however, was canceled after the first training phase of Bert van Marwijk from the squad.
