David O'Leary

David Anthony O'Leary ( born 2 May 1958 in London ) is a former Irish football player and coach.

The London-born son of Irish parents in 1973 signed a contract with Arsenal. Even with 17 years and three months he made his debut in the League team Arsenal and came in his first season, 1975/76 to 27 games, from next season, he spent ten years with an injury interrupted regular player with over 40 annual duty stakes as a central defender for Arsenal, after a severe injury, he came from 1987 to 1992 still every season to over twenty league operations, even if he sometimes had to resort to the position of right-back. He spent a total of 722 appearances for Arsenal record players of the club, of which he completed 558 appearances in the Football League First Division and after 1992 in the Premier League. 1989 and 1991, Arsenal was English with O'Leary Football Champion. 1979 and 1993 he won the FA Cup in 1987 and 1993, the League Cup, the FA Cup final in 1993 was his last game for Arsenal. 1993/94 he moved from Arsenal to Leeds United, where he completed another ten Erstligaeinsätze. He scored 14 goals during his career in the First Division.

In 1976 O'Leary debuted in the Irish national team, where he initially played together with his London club mates Liam Brady and Frank Stapleton, but the two left Arsenal in the early 1980s. By 1993, O'Leary came on 68 National team missions, where he lodged the mid-1980s, a longer break after he had fallen out due to a non- nomination with coach Jack Charlton. After a long break O'Leary returned to the Football World Cup 1990 in the Irish squad back. In the next round against Romania Charlton moved into the extension of David O'Leary, who then turned on penalties the last and decisive penalty shot and Ireland so the quarterfinals. His only international goal in the regular season scored O'Leary in a European Championship qualifier against Turkey.

After his playing career, he was employed from 1998 to 2002 at Leeds United as a coach. Since the season 2002/ 03 he was manager of the English Premier League club Aston Villa. Since his resignation in July 2006, he is not active as a coach, but he writes for the Irish Sun about football. O'Leary currently lives in the small village of Sickling Hall near Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

David O'Leary's brother Pierce O'Leary was in 1979 and 1980 seven-time national player for Ireland.
