David Picão

David Picão ( born August 18, 1923 in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil, † April 30, 2009 in São Paulo) was a bishop of Santos.

Life

David Picão studied theology and philosophy at the seminars in Campinas and Central do Ipiranga and theology and canon law at the Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained priest on 10 October 1948 in Rome. He then worked in the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto, a professor and spiritual director of the diocesan Seminary " Mary Immaculate ", later as Chancellor of the Archbishop's administration.

In 1960 he was called by Pope John XXIII. da Boa Vista appointed the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of São João. He received his episcopal consecration on 31 July 1960 in the Cathedral of Ribeirão Preto Archbishop Armando Lombardi, Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil. Were co-consecrators Luis do Amaral Mousinho, Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto, and Jaime Luiz Coelho, Bishop of Maringá. His episcopal motto was " Omnibus omnia factus " ( "Everything for everyone " - 1 Corinthians 9, 22).

John XXIII. 1963 appointed him titular bishop of Thois and appointed him as a coadjutor in the Diocese of Santos. In 1966 he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed the fourth Bishop of Santos.

He was over 35 years Chancellor of the Universidade Católica de Santos ( UniSantos ). He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 1996 honorary citizen of Santos.

2000 his resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II.
