David Preiss

David Preiss ( born January 21, 1947 in Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech- British mathematician who deals with real analysis and geometric measure theory.

Preiss studied from 1965 at the Charles University of Prague, where he received his doctorate in 1970 at Ladislav Mišík ( 1921-2001 ) ( RNDr. ) and 1979 its candidate titles acquired (C Sc.). He was until 1990 at the Charles University and then a professor at University College London ( Astor Professor of Pure Mathematics ). He is currently a professor at the University of Warwick.

It dealt among other things with geometric measure theory (eg Regularitätsfragen of currents, dimensions and quantities, mathematical theory of fractals, Lipschitz solutions of partial differential equations), nonlinear geometric functional analysis ( questions of differentiability, Isomorphismusprobleme of Banach spaces, volume measurements in infinite dimensional spaces ) and classical real Analysis ( Differenzierbarkeitsprobleme, description of discharges, generalized integrals structure of subsets of the real line ).

In 2012 he was awarded the Ostrowski Prize and the 2008 Pólya Prize of the London Mathematical Society, whose Council Member ( Council member), he was at times. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (2004) and since 2003 Honorary member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. In 2010 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad ( differentiability of Lipschitz functions, structure of null sets and other problems, with Marianna Csörnyei, Giovanni Alberti ) and 1990 on the ICM in Kyoto ( differentiability and measures in Banach spaces ).

He was on the editorial boards of the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, Real Analysis Exchange, Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae and Mathematika.
