David Rees (mathematician)

David Rees ( born May 28, 1918August 16, 2013 ) was a British mathematician who worked on commutative algebra.

Rees studied at the University of Cambridge. During the Second World War, he was known as " Code Breaker " in the English Bletchley Park in " Hut 6 " ( German: Barracks 6) involved in the successful decipherment of German rotor cipher machine ENIGMA. Rees was later a professor at the University of Exeter. In the commutative algebra it is known in particular for working with Douglas Northcott 1954. The set of Artin -Rees is associated with his name.

In 1993 he was awarded the Pólya Prize. He was Honorary Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. In August 1998, took place at the University of Exeter, a conference on his 80th birthday instead. He was married to the mathematician Joan Rees ( Lecturer at the University of Exeter). His daughter Mary Rees ( born 1953 ) is a professor of mathematics at the University of Liverpool, specializing in complex dynamics. His PhD was one Michael Drazin ( Cambridge 1953).
