David Rosenhan

David L. Rosenhan ( born November 2, 1929 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey; † February 6, 2012 in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California ) was an American psychologist.

Life

He has a Bachelor's degree in 1951 and 1953 are available at the Yeshiva University at Columbia University, a master's degree. In 1958 he received his doctorate in psychology ibid. After professorships at Swarthmore College, Princeton University and at Haverford College he belonged from 1970 to the faculty of Stanford University. He died on 6 February 2012 at the age of 82 years at Stanford University Hospital.

Work

He was best known for the Rosenhan experiment, in which mentally healthy people voluntarily went to the closed psychiatry, to find out if and how they would be recognized as healthy. He also has a reverse experiment was performed in which the hospital was told it would log Healthy, although this was not true.
