David S. Bennett

David Smith Bennett ( May 3 in 1811 Onondaga County, New York, † November 6, 1894 in Buffalo, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

David Bennett was born on a farm near Camillus in Onondaga County. He attended the common schools and worked in agriculture. He later moved successively into the cities Syracuse, New York and in 1853 to Buffalo, where he drove agricultural products. In addition, he ran some granary. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In 1865 he moved into the Senate from New York.

In the congressional elections of 1868 Bennett was in the 30th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat James M. Humphrey on March 4, 1869. Since he resigned in 1870 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1871. During this time the 15th Amendment was ratified.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives David Bennett took his previous activities on again. He died on November 6, 1895 in Buffalo and was buried in Syracuse.
