David Simon

David Simon ( born February 9, 1960 in Washington DC) is an American author, journalist and writer / producer of American TV series.

Life

Simon comes from a Jewish family. After attending the University of Maryland, College Park, he wrote 12 years for the Baltimore Sun newspaper.

Simon is author of Homicide: A Year on murderous streets and The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood. The first book was a template for the NBC series Homicide: Life on the Street, which he accompanied as a writer and producer. From the second book Simon made ​​along with Ed Burns, the HBO miniseries The Corner, which was awarded the Emmy.

In addition, he invented and produced, again in collaboration with Ed Burns, the award-winning HBO series The Wire. His current project is playing in New Orleans drama Treme.

Awards

In September 2010, Simon was honored by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation with the Genius Award.
