David Stewart (Scottish politician)

David Stewart ( born May 5, 1956 in Inverness ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Stewart attended the Paisley College and graduated as Bachelor. He then went to the University of Stirling and earned a diploma in social work. In 1996, he acquired also a Diploma in Management from the Open University. Stewart is a member of the trade union UNISON. He is married and has two children.

House of Commons

For the first time Stewart joined on to national elections for the 1997 General Election. He won the direct mandate of the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber, and defended it at the following general election in 2001. Prior to the general election in 2005 the constituency Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber was dissolved. For this reason, Stewart went for a successor constituencies Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey to, but was defeated by Liberal Democrat Danny Alexander and lost his seat in the British House of Commons.

Scottish Parliament

The Scottish Parliament elections of 2007, Stewart applied for a list mandate for election Highlands and Islands. As a result of the election results, he was one of the seven mandates the choice list region and moved for the first time in the Scottish Parliament. In the parliamentary elections of 2011, Stewart applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Inverness and Nairn, but was defeated, the SNP candidate Fergus Ewing. But he defended his position of choice region.
