Davit Bakradze

Davit Bakradze (Georgian დავით ბაქრაძე; born July 1, 1972 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian diplomat and politician (United National Movement ). PhD in physics, was from Januar to April 2008 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. From June 2008 to October 2012 he was president of the Georgian Parliament. 2013 he ran as presidential candidate of the United National Movement.

Life

Study

In 1994 he completed his studies at the Georgian Technical University, then completed a postgraduate course in Radio Physics. In 1995 and 1996 he studied at the Georgian -American Institute for Public Affairs. At the Tbilisi State University and a PhD in physics and mathematics.

In 1997, he took training courses at Swiss International Relations Institute in Geneva, in 1998 at the George Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Germany. In 2001, he completed studies at the NATO Defence College in Rome.

Public service

In 1997 he joined as Deputy Head of the Department for Disarmament and Arms Control in the Georgian Foreign Ministry from 1998 to 2000 he was head of this department. 2000 to 2002 he was deputy chief of the military-political department of the Foreign Ministry. In 2002 he moved to the National Security Council of Georgia. At first he was Head of the Service for Security Affairs, then head of the department of Foreign Security, and Conflict (2003 ), and finally head of the Political Security Section ( 2004).

Member of Parliament

In the same year he was elected on the list of United National Movement as a deputy in the Parliament of Georgia. He was chairman of the parliamentary committee for Euro -Atlantic integration.

Minister

On 19 July 2007 he was Georgian Minister for Conflict Resolution, and thus the chief negotiator for the secessionist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. On 31 January 2008, the Parliament elected him to the proposal from Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidses to the Georgian Foreign Minister. Already on 23 April of the same year Bakradse resigned from his ministerial office to participate as a top candidate of the ruling United National Movement in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. The Georgian Foreign Ministry took over as acting Grigol Vashadze to Eka Tqeschelaschwili has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister.

Parliament President, Presidential Candidate

In the parliamentary elections of 21 May 2008 he was again elected to the Georgian parliament and elected at the inaugural meeting of the new parliament on June 7, President of the Parliament. After the electoral defeat of his party in the parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2012 he was leader of the opposition. In June 2013 he was nominated as the presidential candidate of the United National Movement.

Bakradze is married and has two children. He speaks Georgian, English and Russian. He served in the Georgian armed forces and is a reserve officer.
