NATO Defense College

The NATO Defense College was founded in 1951 (NDC ) is a Military Academy of NATO staff officers and generals of the armed forces of the Alliance members Cecchignola, a district in the south of Rome.

Generally

The College goes back to a proposal Dwight D. Eisenhower and had its first seat in Paris. When France parted in 1966 by the military structure of NATO, the College twisted to Rome ( Viale della Civilta del Lavoro ), until it moved to a new building in 1999 double size in the military town ( Città Militare ) Cecchignolas. The commander of the College has the rank of lieutenant general. His deputies and directors are in the military rank of general and civilians. Commander since July 2011, the Norwegian Lieutenant General Arne Bård Dalhaug.

About 30 teachers teach here from ten different, mostly five and a half month courses and seminars. About 100 participants, including 25 % of them civilians (diplomats, government officials, parliamentarians ) are enrolled annually at the school. Course Access receive both delegates of the NATO countries and countries participating in the Partnership for Peace program (since 1994) and the Mediterranean Dialogue. The previously about 7,000 graduates may use the combination of letters after their name NADC lead (so-called post- nominals ).

Since 1953 there is the Annual Conference and Seminar of the Association of Anciens and since 1971 an annual conference of the commanders of the military academies of the NATO countries, are invited to the 1991 also those of the OSCE. Here opinions on national officer training be exchanged for the purpose of building trust.
