David III. (. äthiop. ዳዊት, also called Dawit III, Throne name Adbad Seged አድባር ሰገድ, " before the mountains bow down " ) (* 1695, † May 18, 1721 ) was on 9 February 1716 to May 18, 1721 to Negus Nagast ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia.

He was a son of the Ethiopian Emperor Iyasu I, and since 1270 came from the ruling Ethiopian Solomonic dynasty. Relatively little is known about his reign. David decided the disputes of various influential religious groups for the throne during the reign of Emperor Yostos for themselves. In 1716 he is said to have strangled the emperor Yostos to ascend the throne himself. In March of the same year he had three missionaries of the Franciscan Order from Gonder stony, as they refused to participate in the Ethiopian Eucharist. David himself was a member of the powerful Ethiopian Qibat - faith. During his reign, the province of Shewa declared their independence from the Empire. The clashes between the Qibat - monastic orders and the Tewahedo monastic orders went during David's reign unabated, culminating in 1720 in the commanded by the emperor massacre of the monks from Tewahedo Azezo. An assassination attempt against Emperor of Dejazmach Leta David III. Failed. About place and circumstances of the mysterious death of David III. there is nothing recorded. His successor was - after a short interruption by Walda Giyorgis - his brother Bakaffa.
