Dawn Penn

Dawn Penn ( born 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica as Dawn Pickering ) is a Jamaican rocksteady and reggae singer.

As a child, she learned violin and piano and won a talent competition at age 17. In the late sixties, their own version of the blues songs " You Do not Love Me" by Willie Cobbs was released by the label Studio One and was in Jamaica to be a hit. She took on more songs, including that produced by Prince Buster "Blue Yes Blue". In the early seventies, she moved to the Virgin Islands, where she worked as an accountant. An attempted comeback in 1987 failed.

1994 produced the duo Steely & Clevie a dancehall version of their 1967 song titled " You Do not Love Me ( No, No, No) ". The song was released worldwide in the music charts and an album called "No, No, No " was recorded. The follow-up single was unable to post the same success. In July 1996 another album was released, entitled " Come Again ".

Jackie Mittoo, Jamaican keyboardist and founding member of the Skatalites, coverte in turn this Rock Steady song and turned it into an instrumental version. "Ghetto Organ", published in 1972 on the album ' Macka Fat '.
