Day of the Fight is a short film by director Stanley Kubrick, shot in 1951 in the U.S..

Action

In the short film of the day is shown, where the Irish middleweight boxer Walter Cartier prepared together with his twin brother Vincent to take place at 22:00 clock the fight against colored Bobby James. After breakfast he goes to Mass, then to lunch. At 16:00 clock he packs his bags for the fight. At 20:00 clock he's waiting in the locker room. There he prepares mentally for battle and turns into the fighting machine that demands of the occasion. At 22:00 clock he stands against James and soon he goes after two laps as the winner by KO from the short fight.

For the production

Kubrick's friend Alexandre Singer, who worked for the March of Time newsreel, told him that there about 40,000 dollars have been spent on short films. They decided to make films for a tenth of that price. For the first short film, Kubrick watched the middleweight boxer Walter Cartier, about which he had already done a photo shoot for " look," in his fight preparations and the subsequent boxing match on April 17, 1950.

For the final film March of Time Kubrick offered not even the cost of production. Later bought R.K.O. Radio the film for an even lower amount.

The documentary provides a character study as well as social study represents the famous knockout scene was not filmed by Kubrick himself, because he had to change at this point the film of their camera.
