De Ploeg

De Ploeg (Eng. The plow ) is an association of artists founded in Groningen in 1918, which still exists today. The primary objective of the group was to create more opportunities for exhibitions and artistic collaboration in Groningen. Through readings, exhibitions and writings artists and the public were informed of new developments in art. The name comes from Jan Altink, who was of the opinion that in Groningen still a large area of modern art had to be brought under cultivation. Everyone who wanted to deal seriously with art could become a member, there was no substantive program.
