Deadlands

Deadlands is a pen -and- paper role-playing game, which is located in the Wild West and complemented by undead, demons and other villains. It was designed by Shane Lacy Hensley, first published in 1996 by the publisher Pinnacle Entertainment Group.

Control systems

Deadlands originally worked with many different dice and poker with a set of playing cards. Later the background as Deadlands d20 on the D20 system and as GURPS Deadlands was adjusted to GURPS. Pinnacle published Deadlands: Reloaded 2006 under his Savage Worlds system.

Game worlds

The Deadlands world is composed of several stages:

  • Deadlands - The Weird West
  • Deadlands - Hell on Earth

The most common is probably the system Deadlands - The Weird West. This is a Wild West scenario, which is located around the year 1876 during the American Civil War (the story has taken a slightly different turn in the game world of Deadlands ). Elements of horror, steampunk and a gloomy atmosphere characterize this the gaming experience. The game world is similar to so most likely the scenario of the movie Wild Wild West.

In contrast, should you look at the scenario of Deadlands - Hell on Earth rather than to introduce a ajar on Mad Max game world - a world after nuclear war, as it is portrayed in the movie The Day After. However, this role-playing game system also includes many elements of the supernatural, which is characteristic of many pen -and- paper role-playing games. Hell on Earth is linked to the game world of Deadlands - The Weird West on. The system is seen over time in the year 2094 in North America. Due to the game -determining element of survival in a post nuclear, hostile world, this game world is defined as post-apocalyptic end-time scenario.

Deadlands - Lost Colony plays as it did Deadlands -. Hell on Earth in the year 2094 From the Earth descended people are the protagonists of the story. However, on an alien planet, whereby the aspect of science fiction is introduced into the world of Deadlands.

Overall, this role-playing game system is mainly distributed in the English-speaking world. Some rulebooks / extensions, of which several dozen have been published, have been translated into German and published in Time -Verlag. Since August 2009 Deadlands is produced in Germany in co-operation of time and the movement -Verlag.

Reloaded

In spring 2006, published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group, Deadlands: Reloaded, a new version of Deadlands. The new versions of the other two lines Hell on Earth: Reloaded and Lost Colony: Reloaded have been announced but not yet published.

Reloaded updated the meta -plot of the individual settings ( DL: R for example, start in 1879 ) and modified the control system to Savage Worlds. Contrary to previous Savage Worlds settings will DL: R do not include entire campaign, but merely represent the world. It is thus the first "Open Setting" of Savage Worlds. A plot -point campaign, as in other Savage Worlds settings common (for example 50Fathoms or tour of Darkness ) is to follow. On what date is not yet known.
