History

The DCS was founded after several months of informal meetings in 2004 on the initiative of Thorsten Rogowski as student high school group at the University of Stuttgart in the form of a non-profit organization and incorporated into the General Studies at the University as well as the umbrella organization VDCH. Purposes of the Association are the formation of the democratic culture of debate and the exchange of rhetorical skills. This is achieved through regular training rhetorical methods and skills and subsequent debates. Also the participation in and the organization of speech contests contribute to achieving these goals. Members of the DCS therefore regularly take part in national tournaments such as the German Debating Championship (DDM ) and international tournaments such as the WUDC and the European Universities Debating Championship ( EUCD ).

Activities

Already in 2003, addressed the DCS the Baden -Württemberg Championship Hochschuldebattieren ( Baden-Württemberg ) from, also 2008, the Süddeutsche Championship ( SDM) and 2010 and 2011, a TIME debate, each with over 100 participants. Also in 2011, addressed the DCS his first international tournament, the Stuttgart IV 2011. The tournaments have been held in the format of British Parliamentary Style. The Club also organizes regular friendship tournaments and show debates, such as in May 2011 in Stuttgart Town Hall.

Since 2009, the DCS offers each semester to a rhetoric and argumentation training in the key skills of the University of Stuttgart. Seminars, inter alia, for other debating societies, companies, youth organizations of political parties, scholars of the Baden- Württemberg Stiftung and summer students at the University of Oxford complete the offer.
