Debina (grape)

The white grape Debina is native to Greece. Recommended is their cultivation in the region of Epirus, approved ( in the prefectures of Ioannina and Thesprotia ) near the Albanian border and the Arcadia region of the Peloponnese, it is furthermore in Thessaly in Larissa. With a total of 789 hectares under vine (as of the late 1990s ) it occupies in Rebsortenspiegel Greece Rank 9 of the white varieties. The vine is grown to a small extent in Albania.

In Epirus it is used for example in the wines of the appellation Zitsa. The late maturing variety produces tangy, acid- stressed white wines. These sparkling wines with an apple flavor are generally of a good quality and to be expanded more or less sweet. With proportions of red grape varieties also rosé sparkling wines are produced.

In addition to her qualities as wine grape it is locally valued as a table grape.
