Dechencholing Palace

The Dechencholing Palace ( Dzongkha: བདེ་ཆེན་ཆོས་གླིང་ ) is the official main palace of the King of Bhutan. It is located seven kilometers north of the Bhutanese capital Thimphu.

The Dechencholing Palace was built in 1952 to 1953, after the coronation of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk of the third and in memory of his father, Jigme Wangchuck .. here the fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born November 11, 1955.

The palace is no longer used as a residential palace since the fifth King Jigme Appointed Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. It is mainly used for representative purposes and also serves as accommodation for Indian delegations.

The current Royal Palace is the Samteling Palace.
