Deep Blue Something

Band History

The band Deep Blue Something was formed in Denton (Texas ) in 1993 by the four students Todd and Toby Pipes, Kirk Tatom and John Kirtland. In the same year, the band released their first album " 11th Song ," a lo-fi production, which was sold through a small record label in Dallas.

After the four band members had completed the study, they followed along with the actual career parallel the music business. With the second album, "Home" (this time released on a major label ) came the big breakthrough, the single " Breakfast at Tiffany's " (1994 /95) became a worldwide hit. The song is about a relationship between two people who have grown apart in the opinion of the woman. The only thing she admits to have together with your partner is that they are both the film " Breakfast at Tiffany's " like ( " we both kinda liked it" ). Tours and numerous TV appearances (among Top of the Pops ) followed. Meanwhile, guitarist / backing vocalist Kirk Tatom had been replaced by college friend Clay Bergus. With the chart success of singer and bassist Todd Pipes lost his job as a teacher in a Christian private school because the parents were afraid of bad influence of rock musician on their children.

Motivated by the success of the song "Breakfast at Tiffany's " was the first album re-released " 11th Song." This led to a long-running legal dispute between the band and the record company, as the band was too bad the album as high as a new version and wanted to prevent the publication. Among the lawsuits also suffered the further plates Byzantium (1998) and Deep Blue Something (2001), after which the band withdrew from the public eye.

The brothers Pipes founded their own recording studio / record label in Dallas called "Bass Propulsion Laboratories ," while Clay Bergus is Manager of his wife's gourmet restaurants, " Perry 's". Toby and Clay are members of " The Hundred Inevitables " of Dallas; Toby is also part of the band Calhoun, which was founded in 2004 in Fort Worth, Texas.
