Delano is a city in the U.S. state of California in Kern County. It has about 43,400 inhabitants ( 2004) on an area of 26.3 km ².

Delano was founded on July 14, 1873 as a railway station. The name was given to the city from the Southern Pacific Railroad to honor Columbus Delano, the then chairman of the U.S. Federal Ministry of the Interior.

In addition, Delano is next to Chino, Folsom and San Quentin prison in an important a part of the plot of the monumental film Blood in, Blood out - conspired plays on life and death.
