Delium

Delion (Greek Δήλιον Delion, latin Delium ) was a town in Boeotia. It contained, as the similarly named island of Delos, a temple dedicated to the god Apollo. Delion was founded by Tanagra and lay on the southern Gulf of Euboea, about two kilometers from Oropus and eight miles from Tanagra. Today there is still a small town, DILION ( modern Greek transliteration of Delion ) is called.

In Delion two battles took place:

  • The Battle of Delion was held 424 BC during the Peloponnesian War.
  • The second battle was a battle of the Roman- Syrian War.
