Demsin was a municipality in the district Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt. She was a member of the administrative community Elbe- Stremme - Fiener, which had its headquarters in the city Genthin.

On 1 July 1950, the formerly independent communities Großdemsin, Kleinwusterwitz and Zabakuck were merged to the municipality Demsin, but already on 1 January 1957 Zabakuck was again a separate municipality.

Until December 31, 2009 Demsin was an independent municipality, which consisted of the villages Großdemsin, Kleindemsin and Kleinwusterwitz as well as the living quarters inland heath, three houses and Werdershof. January 1, 2010 Demsin was dissolved and incorporated into the city Jerichow. Last mayor Demsins was Jürgen Staschull. In the municipality Demsins lived on 22.35 km ² Population 381 (31 December 2008 ).

In 2008, the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch designed on behalf of the local council, a coat of arms, which is supposed to represent symbolically the places even after the incorporation. It was considered that Demsin of the districts Großdemsin, Kleindemsin and Kleinwusterwitz as well as the living quarters inland heath, three houses and Werdershof existed.
