Particularly striking is the heavily fortified gatehouse. The main gate is flanked by two octagonal towers, behind which a third tower blocks the direct route, which is why the passage to the courtyard bends to the right. If it should be possible attackers to storm the gate, they would have been easy to fight in the narrow archway. The archway can be locked thereto by a portcullis and is provided with murder holes in the ceiling.
