Dendrology

The Dendrology ( Greek: δένδρον dendron, tree ' and -logy ) is the science of trees and shrubs ( woody customer). It deals as a branch of botany with woody plants, especially trees, shrubs and various climbing plants.

Classification

The Dendrology can be classified under Botany and roughly divided into the areas of woody plants, shrubs and climbing plants. Since the woody plants are spread in very different taxa and on the other hand exist in some woody species in addition to non -woody plants, the benefits of strict dendrologic classification is restricted. The focus is on plants for wood utilization on the one hand and the use as an ornamental plant in parks and gardens. Therefore Dendrology is represented as a science essentially only in forest science and horticultural facilities.

As the founder of Dendrology applies the Greek philosopher and naturalist Theophrastus.
