Denis de Sallo

Denis de Sallo also: Dionysius de Sallo, Jean -Denis de Sallo, Sieur de la Coudraye (pseudonym Sieur d' Hédonville; (* March 17, 1626 in Sainte -Hermine, † May 14, 1669 in Paris) was a French author. He is regarded as the editor of the first scientific journal.

Life and work

Sallo came from a very old and noble family who has been resident in Poitou. He holds a degree in rhetoric and sat down beside it with the Latin and Greek language apart.

In 1652 he was Counsellor of Parliament in Paris, married three years later and produced in 1664 the first draft of the Journal of sçavans at which the first scientific journal ever published on January 5, 1665. In the magazine, which he published under the name Hedevill or Hédouville he -reviewed several books critical and also attacked utterances from different people, which he examined sharply. The Roman Curia complained about some critical remarks on the French government. Then the magazine on 20 March of the same year was reinstated. A reappearance was subject to examination by a censor. Sallo then put one of its publishing activities.

Sallo is yet occurred in other than the author of several books and tracts. His generosity is highlighted against the poor and the Church of witnesses.
