Denis-Luc Frayssinous

Denis- Antoine- Luc comte de Frayssinous ( born May 9, 1765 in Curières, Aveyron, † December 12, 1841 in Saint- Eulalie, Aveyron ) was a French clergyman, politician, orator and Titular Bishop of Hermopolis Maior.

Biography

Frayssinous was Napoleon I minister in Paris, but was not allowed to climb the pulpit as a royalist since 1809. After the Restoration he was 1816 first almoner and court chaplain of Louis XVIII. , Then Titular Bishop of Hermopolis Parva, Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, Graf and Pair, 1823 Grand Master of the University of Paris, and in 1824 Minister of Education ( ministre des Affaires ecclésiastiques et de l' Instruction publique ).

With Jean -Baptiste de Villèle he lost his portfolio in 1828, but remained in the full enjoyment of the confidence of Charles X and followed the royal family in exile. There he directed until 1838 Gorizia education by Henri d' Artois, the Duke of Bordeaux. He died on December 12, 1842 Saint- Eulalie in Gascony.

He was a member of the Chambre des pairs and in 1822 was elected to the Académie française.
