Dennis Edwards

Dennis Edwards ( born February 3, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama ) is an American soul and rhythm and blues singer. He was known primarily as the lead singer of The Temptations.

With two years he began to sing in a church choir. When he was seven years old his parents moved with him to Detroit ( Michigan). At the Detroit Conservatory of Music, he studied piano and composition. Dennis Edwards & The Firebirds was a soul-jazz band which he himself founded. His first single he taught International Soulville Records, an unknown Detroit label out. The single " I Did not Have To (But I Did ), Johnnie On The Spot " trades under Soul fans 3000-6000 U.S. dollars. David Ruffin was fired because of his unprofessional behavior in the Temptations and Dennis Edwards began as lead singer of the Temptations on. With the songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, he had a quarrel because the first verse in the song " Papa Was A Rollin ' Stone". Dennis Edwards was of the opinion that the first verse is an allusion to the death of his father.

1977, shortly before the break with Motown was fired Dennis Edwards, Otis Williams. After a failed solo career with Atlantic Records in 1980, he went back to Motown. On the reunion tour in 1982 he had the opportunity with Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks reappear. Motown was still interested in a solo career, Edwards and Edwards in 1984 as replaced by Ali- Ollie Woodson at the Temptations, without completely losing membership in the Temptations.

Problems of various kinds, it seemed between Edwards, Woodson and Williams to give time and again, and so Edwards was fired in 1989 final with no return ticket in the Temptations. With the ex-members of the Temptations David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks he went, late 80s, with songs by the Temptations on tour. After the death of Ruffin and Kendricks he was forced to continue the project alone. Mid-90s it was because of the name Dennis Edwards & The Temptations between Edwards and Williams litigation. Edwards had his group " The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards " rename. To his current group include Paul Williams Jr., David Sea, Mike Patillo, and Chris Arnold.
