History

Denny's was founded in 1953 by Harold Butler in Lakewood, California and was originally called Danny 's Donuts. In the first fiscal year, the company generated $ 120,000 in revenue. Butler expanded with the business and changed the name in 1959, when there were already 20 restaurants, at Denny's.

The chain continued to grow and in 1981 comprised more than 1,000 restaurants. Until 1991 there was the company's headquarters in Irvine, before it was moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina. In subsequent years, the company was able to expand further and thus maintain its market position against other restaurant chains.

Controversies

In the 1990s, Denny's was involved because of discrimination in a number of court cases. Employees had refused to members of minority groups, especially African-Americans to use, or had served this worse. After completion of a class action by a comparison of $ 54.4 million Denny's launched an industry- acclaimed awareness program for all employees. The public relations of the company has been improved and now showed more African-Americans in his commercials. 2001 Denny's by Fortune Magazine honored as Best Company for Minorities ( "Best Companies for Minorities" ) and has since been found on the list again and again among leading companies. Denny's has consequently continue taking steps to ensure equal treatment for all guests.

In 2001 and 2002, was elected as the best company for children and young Denny's by Fortune magazine. In 2006, Denny's got the title of Black Enterprise as one of the 40 best companies in the United States.
