The little doctor was a German crime series ZDF in two seasons from the year 1974. Literary presentation of the series were short stories by Georges Simenon. Directors were Wolfgang Becker ( season 1, 6 episodes) and Thomas Engel (2nd season, 7 episodes).

Content

The doctor and bachelor Dr. Jean Dollent lives with his housekeeper Marianne in the village Marsilly in the Charente -Maritime. The inconspicuous country doctor is also a master detective who is asked again and again to deal with a complex case. He is regularly successful than the professionals from the criminal investigation department thanks to his knowledge of human nature and his deliberate approach.

The television series, The Nature Doctor is based on a series of short stories by the Belgian writer Georges Simenon, which originated in 1938 in La Rochelle and 1943 in the anthology Le petit docteur Éditions Gallimard published in (see the list of the works of Georges Simenon ). The main character of the country doctor Jean Dollent was inspired by Simenon's family doctor, Dr. Edouard de Béchevel. According to Simeon's biographer Stanley G. Eskin is a typical armchair detective and descendant of Edgar Allan Poe's Auguste Dupin and Gaston Leroux's Rouletabille, the pleasure ready by " his lively and mischievous nature and his easygoing manner to interfere with any investigation ."

In part Dollent determined also in Paris, without, however, comes to an encounter with Simenon's famous Inspector Maigret. For this, he meets several times on his assistant Lucas. Genesis

After the success of the crime series The Commissioner ZDF planned already in 1969 another thriller format for its main role Heinz Rühmann was provided. However, this feared the comparison with Erik Ode and developed his own concept of a more humorous colored series. The already completed screenplays after the submission Simenon were rewritten and adapted to the advanced age Rühmanns. Rühmanns suggestions is also due to the expansion of some of the recurring minor characters of the village. As Riihmann his involvement in the end canceled, the main role with Peer Schmidt was filled and the scripts again aligned with Simenon template. The film was shot on location in western France around La Rochelle.

After six episodes, there was a change in the overall production teams. Instead of FGR film and television production now produced the Bavaria film studio. The Director went by Wolfgang Becker, Thomas Engel on. Even the theme song, which originally came from Graziano Mandozzi version was composed by Erich Ferstl.
