Derek Bok

Derek Curtis Bok ( born March 22, 1930 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) is an American lawyer, educator, author, university professor. Previously, he was already President of Harvard University from 1971-1991 and from July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007 its interim president.

Bok studied until 1951 at Stanford University ( BA), to 1954 at Harvard Law School ( LL.B. ) and until 1958 at the George Washington University ( AM). From 1958 to 1971 he was professor at Harvard University, where he was Dean from 1968 to 1971 and from 1971 to 1991 president of the university. On 1 July 2006 he took office again and was until June 30, 2007 interim president of Harvard University. His successor is Drew Gilpin Faust.

Boks daughter, Hilary Bok, is a Professor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University.
