Derek Miles

Derek Miles ( born September 28, 1972 in Sacramento ) is an American pole vaulter.

In 2003 he became a U.S. indoor champion and fifth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmningham. Outdoors he was national runner-up and sixth at the World Championships in Paris / Saint- Denis. The following year he qualified as a third of the U.S. elimination fights for the Olympic Games in Athens, where he finished seventh.

After three relatively unsuccessful years, he triumphed at the 2008 national qualifying heats for the Olympic Games in Beijing. There he finished fourth and just missed the bronze medal because he had only one failed attempt over the third party Denys Yurchenko, who also jumped over 5.70 m. On September 8, he jumped at an exhibition contest at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin 5.85 m and placed so that his personal record one he had achieved on 12 February 2005 in Donetsk in the hall. As U.S. vice- champion in the following year he went to Berlin again, but different this time at the World Athletics Championships 2009 in the qualifier.

Derek Miles is 1,91 m tall and weighs 86 kg. He graduated from the University of South Dakota and married to Tori Devericks since 2004.
