DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu

Derviş Eroğlu ( born 1938 in Famagusta, Cyprus ) is a Turkish Cypriot politicians. He is the president of the de facto regime, the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognized with the exception of the Republic of Turkey occupying power of any other member state of the United Nations.

After finishing school in Cyprus, he went to medical school to Istanbul. He worked as a physician from then on the island. With the first elections in Northern Cyprus ( 1976), he was for the National Unity Party (UBP ) were elected to the parliament of the former " Föderativstaates of Northern Cyprus". When the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus in 1983 declared a state of their own and Rauf Denktash whose president was Eroğlu took over after the parliamentary elections, the Office of the Prime Minister. With some interruptions, he held this position until January 2004.

In the elections in December 2003, UBP lost its majority and Mehmet Ali Talât of the Republican Turkish Party ( CTP) was Prime Minister. In February 2005, the UBP was in early elections again, only the second-strongest; Eroğlu was opposition leader. He had already in 2000 a candidate against the state Rauf Denktash founder of the Office of the President, the candidacy but withdrew in the second round. In April 2005 he defeated Talât on the first ballot, obtaining only 23%.

In the parliamentary elections on April 19, 2009 Eroğlu won by his party and he again took over the post of prime minister. In the presidential elections on 18 April 2010, he then sat down in the first ballot with just over 50% of the vote against the incumbent Mehmet Ali Talât by. He went to the office of president on April 24, 2010.

Eroğlu is married and has four children.
