The Detaille Island is a small island, which is located on the west side of Graham Lands towards the Arrowsmith Peninsula in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula.

In 1956, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS ) built here, the station W. The duties of the crew were among other measurements at the nearby glaciers and geological and meteorological investigations. The base was well chosen in 1956 because it is situated on a sheltered bay and ice-free. However, in June 1959 ( Antarctic winter) could not reach him, the supply ship, leaving the crew of the station W decided to abandon the base and emigrate to station Y on Horseshoe Iceland. Until that time, the station also Loubet Coast was named after the nearby coastal area of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The station building stood until the summer of 1996 / 1997. During this period, the station and the surrounding area from the BAS was on and cleared

The island is sometimes started during the Antarctic summer cruise ships.
