Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang

The German Language Examination for University Admission (DSH ), formerly testing for the detection of German language proficiency ( PNDS ), is a linguistic entrance examination, which serves to prove the necessary for university studies in Germany German language skills, native-speaking applicants. It is to be taken by student applicants German nationality, who boast no German education ( eg ethnic Germans with German nationality, but a foreign university entrance qualification ), but not of Education nationals.

Eligibility

The prerequisite for participation in the DSH is at many universities admission to a degree program, but in addition, there are increasingly "open" DSH, which are also open to high school foreign students who (still) not able to provide approval.

As part of restructuring the DSH is now only available for a fee at many universities, with the price between 40, - and 150, - € moves. At some sites, the test may be repeated more than twice, between a failed examination and a repeat must be at least three months. Taking part in a preparation course is recommended. At other sites, the test can be repeated without restriction.

Construction

The DSH consists of a written and an oral part of examination. The partial written exams take place before the oral. To pass the overall examination both partial exams must be passed, the overall result is not averaged. To achieve the usually desired level stage DSH 2 both parts of the exam must be passed with at least the DSH 2, for example, subjects, although DSH have reached 3 in the written part of exam, complete the oral part of examination but only with DSH reach 1, also in the overall result, only the level 1 DSH

The pass mark for each test is 57% of the maximum attainable score between 67 % and 81% of the Level 2 DSH is scheduled from 82 % DSH 3

To edit the written test: a monolingual dictionary may be used in the rule. It takes three to four hours of time and includes the following tasks:

The four task areas can also be combined. However, it must be checked every four task areas.

Listening text

The task pane "Understanding and working with a text " to the applicants show that they can follow lectures and talks from the scientific field with understanding as well as that they can take notes to make sense.

The listening text is 50 to 100 lines long. Before the presentation is informed of the thematic context. The text will then be read once or twice. This notes may be made. Before the last lecture tasks are set:

In assessing content will play a greater role than linguistic correctness.

Levels

The result of the DSH is specified in three levels (GSH 1 to DSH 3), which correspond approximately to the levels B2 to C2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference ) and admission procedure analogous to the levels TDN 3 to TDN 5 of the TestDaf ( German test be taken as a Foreign Language).

When GSH level 1 enrollment at entry into further language courses and a re-examination may be coupled, it is sufficient without any further requirements usually only for enrollment in bilingual (eg English - German ) courses. For the majority of courses at German universities, the DSH Level 2 is for enrollment required only for the study of human medicine or dentistry and for some other courses with elevated language requirements is necessary DSH 3.

According to the framework regulations for the DSH ( version dated 8 June 2004) make the individual universities, the tests independently, but within a standardized framework, therefore, the tasks to individual universities may differ. Nevertheless, it has the DSH of any German university which has been accredited by the German Rectors' Conference based on the new framework that will be recognized by other universities.
