Features

Butterfly

Diachrysia zosimi with a wingspan 32-42 millimeters a medium sized butterfly of the subfamily of gold owls. The innermost root field of the forewings is brown and the subsequent root field to Saumfeld sea, depending shiny green yellow or golden green on the light angle. The type is similar to the butterflies of the species complex Burnished Brass ( Diachrysia chrysitis ). Geographical distribution and habitat

The main distribution of Diachrysia zosimi located in southern and eastern regions of Europe and adjacent areas, such as the Ticino, northern Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Moravia, Poland and Ukraine. In the German-speaking area, the species has spread further since their first appearance mid-twentieth century and is now before at various places in Lower Austria and Burgenland. The species is capable of migration. It prefers wet areas with lush vegetation.

Way of life

Diachrysia zosimi is nocturnal and also flies to artificial light sources. The females lay eggs on the food plant from, which hatch the caterpillars in the fall and then feed preferentially from the leaves of Great burnet ( Sanguisorba officinalis). They overwinter and pupate mainly in May of the following year in a light, white cocoon between the leaves of the food plant. The moths fly from June to August in two generations, and in favorable areas in an incomplete third generation in September and October.
