Diana Elles, Baroness Elles

Diana Louie Elles, Baroness Elles ( * July 19, 1921, † 17 October 2009) was a British politician. Elles is a former representative of Great Britain at the UN. Since May 2, 1972, she was Life Peer. It belonged from 1973 to 1975 to the European Parliament at.

Life

Diana Elles was the daughter of Colonel Stewart Newcombe and was first taught in a London private school and went to private schools in Paris and Florence later. She then returned to London to attend the University of London, where she graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Italian. From 1941 to 1945, she served for the Women Airforce Service Pilots ( WASP ), and in 1944 appointed officer.

In 1956 she was admitted by the law firm of Lincoln's Inn as a volunteer in Kennington. She worked there until 1972, when she participated as a representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations General Assembly. From 1973 to 1974 she was a member of a committee, which was directed against discrimination. From 1973 to 1979 she was president of the European community of women (European Union of Women ). She was also from 1973 to 1975 Representative of Great Britain in the European Parliament.

She was married since 1945 with Neil Patrick Moncrieff Elles, with whom she had a son and a daughter. Elles died on 17 October 2009 at the age of 88 years.
